Music-Themed Book Videos: "The Really Awful Musicians" by John Manders
1. This musical story is about:
A wacky tall tale about how musicians first learned to play together. All the musicians in the kingdom are so awful that the king sends his men-at-arms to round up musicians and feed them to the royal crocodiles. Pipe and drum player Piffaro heads for the border, collecting other refugee musicians on the way. Their jam session on the road is so bad that the horse pulling the wagon figures out a way to make them all play the same music at the same time—a system of lines and hoofprints. 2. Students get active! To listen and watch the Musical Book presentation....click on the picture of the book cover to the left. After students listen to the book the first time, they need to get a paper and pencil before they play it again. 1. List the following names on your paper: 1. Piffaro (2 instruments) 2. Espresso 3. Serena the Silent 4. Fortissimo 5. Lugubrio 6. Five Lines 2. Listen to the song / book again, this time, write down the name of the instrument that is played by each person. A couple of the instruments are named by their "older" name. If you know the "modern" name of the instrument, you may write that as well. 3. Pause the video each time you see and hear every new instrument, and write down the name of it next to the correct person on your paper. |
